The F430 features a 4.3 liter V8 gasoline engine that produces 483 horsepower at 8500 rpm and 343 lb-ft of torque at 5250 rpm vs. the outgoing 360's 400 horsepower and 275 ft-lb of torque at 8500 rpm and 4250 rpm respectively. That means the F430 has a 21% and 25% horsepower and torque increase respectively over the 360. Despite the low torque figures 80% of that power is available below 3500 rpm. Engine displacement is 4,300cc for the F430 up 20% over the outgoing 360 model's 3586cc but weight has only grown by 4kg. This is mainly due to the fact that the outgoing 360 featured the last of Ferrari's Dino-derived architecture, while the F430 featured an entirely new design. With the new design, greater displacement and light weight, the Ferrari F430 is capable of hitting a top speed of 200 mph and going from 0 to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds flat, 0.5 seconds faster than the 360. The Formula One (F1) transmission was also vastly improved from the 360, allowing the F430 to make shifts as fast as 150 milliseconds, 4 times faster than a human can blink.

The F430 Scuderia is lighter (by 100 kg/220 lb) and more powerful (515 PS (379 kW; 508 hp) at 8500 rpm) than the standard F430. Most of the power in the Scuderia comes from a revised intake, scuderia exhaust and an ion-sensing knock-detection system that allows for a higher compression ratio. Therefore the weight-to-power ratio in the f430 scuderia is reduced from 2.96 kg/hp to 2.5 kg/hp.

In addition to the weight saving measures, the f430 Scuderias semi-automatic transmission gains improved "Superfast", known as "Superfast2", software for faster 60 millisecond shift-times. A new traction control system combines the F1-Trac traction and stability control with the E-Diff electronic differential. The Ferrari 430 Scuderia does 0-60 miles per hour in 3.1 s and 0-100 km/h in less than 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 198 miles per hour.

Granted that the Versys I rode last week had street tires on it. Nevertheless, the biggest giveaway was the seat height. Like any good dual-sport bike, this one is tall, 33.3 inches they tell us. Tippy-toes height for anyone with my 29-inch inseam. And how about that front suspension: 41mm according to Kawasaki. The same as the KLR 650 and just 2mm less than the other two dual-sports. But then, the Ninja 650R also boasts 41mm up front. (Gosh, what would that baby be like with knobbies?) Of course the riding position on the Versys is much more upright than on the Ninja, with the grips much higher.

Kawasaki also tells us that the Versys is tuned for low-range torque, so that is consistent with a dual-sport as well. And the compact 650cc parallel twin helps keep the body of the bike slim, also a dual-sport characteristic.

The Kawasaki KLX110 is possibly one of the best mini bikes on the market. It has a lot more torque and power, yet it still comes at a reasonable price. Remember not to be fooled by the amount of other cheap copies out there. These copies won't be as fun and they certainly won't last as long as the real thing. If you are serious about getting into the mini bike scene, then this bike is definitely the one for you!

2005 Kawasaki KLX 110

The Kawasaki mini bikes have become more and more popular over the years. This means that the likes of Kawasaki KLX110 parts and upgrades are readily available. Even motocross dealers (ones that don't specialize in mini bikes) have realized that there is a market for mini bike products. So anything you need can most likely be found in your local dealer, and if not, then there are plenty of resources online that can supply you with literally anything!

KLX300 is the most powerful in its class. More horsepower and torque than the XR250R and DR250. Don't get too excited, though, because the 24 ponies it puts out makes a very smooth and linear power curve. This is mainly thanks to the Keihin CVK 34mm constant velocity carburetor. It uses the pull of vacuum to move the slide up, which takes away any "snap" the bike would have. It simply robs torque and horsepower that this bike could've had.

2005 Kawasaki KLX 300

Although the KLX300R has motocross-style suspension, it does not perform exactly like it. It's a smaller and cheaper version of it. You can't tune the forks and shock as you would be able to on a race bike. With that said, many KLX owners have swapped out the stock forks for a pair from an older KX250 (there may be a future article on how to do this if I get enough responses). With some adjusting of what clickers I had, the bike was finally riding like it should. I'm a light rider, and I had to have the clickers almost all the way in for it to be stiff enough. I do occasionally jump the bike, but its main use was riding single track trails, so the suspension couldn't be too harsh. If you weigh over 150 lbs (68 kg) you'll probably need to get stiffer springs, and it will be well worth it once the bike is set-up the way you want.
